Learn More →The Real ID Deadline Is May 7—Here’s What TSA Says the Air Travel Requirements Will Be After That
Starting May 7, 2025, U.S. travelers aged 18 and older must present a Real ID–compliant license, state ID, or valid passport to board domestic flights. Without one, travelers may face delays, extra screening, or be denied access to the TSA checkpoint. The TSA advises arriving at least 3 hours early if you don’t have a Real ID. Real ID cards have a star symbol and require in-person applications with documents proving identity, Social Security number, and residency. All 50 states and U.S. territories now issue them. Full enforcement is expected nationwide by May 5, 2027.
